Thanks for Your Questions! Here are Some Answers.

Following our launch last week, several of you emailed with questions about ContemporaryCouples.com.  I wanted to address five of those questions and encourage everyone to visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.  In the near future, this blog will feature helpful tips for gay and lesbian couples and LGBTQ singles. But first, let’s address some of the technical aspects of attending a webinar:

Question #1: Is participation in a webinar confidential?  Will others be able to see me on their computer screen?

Answer: Participation is completely confidential.  Only the webinar presenter and host (staff at ContemporaryCouples.com) know who is attending the webinar.  Only the presenter(s) and host/moderator are seen on your computer screen.  Attendees are NOT seen by others.

Question #2: What if I have a question during the webinar?  How will the presenter address my question and still maintain my confidentiality?

Answer: Each webinar has a chat feature.  During the Q&A portions, you can type in your question.  The presenter will address those questions without identifying who asked them.  During other interactive portions of the webinar, select phone lines may be taken off mute so that individuals can make comments, share ideas, or ask questions if they so choose.  In this case, participants may identify themselves by first name only, or not at all.  It’s completely up to each webinar attendee.  Remember, you are invited, but never required, to speak during a webinar.  Some participants want to share, while others are more comfortable just absorbing the information quietly as they listen.

Question #3: Do I need any special software to participate in a webinar?

Answer: Our webinars are web based, which means attendees never have to download or install anything.  When you register and pay the tuition, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a link to use on the day and time of the event.  When you click on that link, you’ll be asked to enter your phone number.  The system then dials you to connect your audio.  This is a toll-free number – - you will not be charged anything for the call.  Don’t worry if you lose the original confirmation email.  We will automatically send you reminder emails one week, one day, and one hour before the event begins.

Question #4: What are the system requirements for my computer?

Answer: Minimum requirements to attend our fully interactive online relationship seminars:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, Mozilla Firefox 2.5, Safari (Mac) or Netscape
  • JavaScript and cookies enabled in the browser
  • 56K or faster Internet connection (Broadband connection recommended)

Click here to run a quick system test to make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements.

Question #5: Is my webinar tuition payment secure?

Answer: Yes – ContemporaryCouples.com uses PayPal so that your credit card information is secure at all times.

I hope this information is helpful.  Feel free to ask additional questions here.  I look forward to connecting with all of you soon to build healthier gay and lesbian relationships across the country.

Giving Gay & Lesbian Couples a Fighting Chance: Former Soulforce Director Promotes Healthy Relationships

Web Seminars Accessible Across the U.S.

Gay men and lesbians in every county and town across the nation have a new champion for their relationships. Jeff Lutes, former Executive Director of Soulforce, has launched ContemporaryCouples.com to provide high-quality relationship education for gay and lesbian partners and singles

ContemporaryCouples.com offers interactive, online training via web seminars with experts on communication, intimacy, and resilience in gay and lesbian relationships.

“Effective, research-based instruction for same-sex relationships can be difficult to find, even for those in big cities,” says Lutes, a psychotherapist and relationship consultant with more than 20 years of clinical experience. “Once you get outside the metropolitan centers, the options are even more scarce.”

During his tenure at Soulforce, Lutes used his knowledge of current psychological research to challenge “ex-gay” ministries and to debunk the harmful anti-gay teachings of Dr. James Dobson. Lutes organized the 2005 Soulforce action at Focus on the Family, which is featured in the movie For the Bible Tells Me So.

Traveling the country with Soulforce, Lutes spoke with hundreds of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people about their needs and experiences. “I began to think about what I could do, as a therapist, to give their relationships a fighting chance.”

Lutes was already working with same-sex couples and individuals in his private practice in Austin, Texas. Having trained with some of the top relationship experts in the nation, he was busy putting their insights to work in the context of LGBTQ communities. But he wanted those insights to reach more people in need. Thus, ContemporaryCouples.com was born.

ContemporaryCouples.com offers relationship education in an interactive, multi-media format. Anyone with a phone line and an Internet connection can register for courses like “Bulletproof Bonding,” “Commitment Prep,” and “Leveraging the Strengths in Same-Sex Relationships.” Presentations may include PowerPoint, video, relationship assessment tools, exercises, and group discussion. Participants may choose to share feelings and personal experiences or to remain silent and simply absorb the information as they listen.

At ContemporaryCouples.com, our mission is to teach LGBTQ singles and couples across the country the essential skills for creating and maintaining committed and loving long-term relationships. For more information, go to www.contemporarycouples.com.
